Navan O’Mahony’s 1-17
St Peters Dunboyne 2-01
O’Mahony’s came out on top in this Div 1 FL encounter with Dunboyne, which was a refixture due to poor weather at the start of the year. Friday’s match was played, in stark contrast to that, on a perfect evening for football.
Hannah Heskin was the first player on the scoresheet, followed by Denise McGrath and Chloe Duffy. These three scores were nullified when the visitors found the net in the twelfth minute. O’Mahony’s were quick to respond to the goal, with McGrath splitting the posts within a minute.
By the midway point of the half, O’Mahony’s had extended the lead to three again. Isabel Thorp, Neasa McDermott, Emma Sheridan and McGrath all pointed to extend this further approaching half time.
Navan O’Mahony’s 0-10
St Peters Dunboyne 1-00
In the opening five minutes of the second half, O’Mahony’s consolidated their lead with a McGrath point and a well-taken goal from Ailbhe Leahy. Sophia Fitzherbert and Sarah Powderly both added their name to the scoresheet, with Dunboyne’s only point of the match splitting these two scores.
Midway through the second half, Dunboyne got their second goal, but again O’Mahony’s responded well. This time it was Sheridan who responded with a quick score. Sheridan, Powderly and Thorp added to their earlier scores and O’Mahony’s were comfortable winners by the final whistle.
