O’Mahony’s had a better second half, coming out on top by six points having been down a point at half time against St Colmcilles in Paddy O’Brien Park on Friday evening.

Emma Sheridan was the first to score, with a point from play. Three minutes later, St Colmcilles equalised. This pattern repeated five minutes later. Midway through the half, after a Neasa McDermott point and a goal from Ailbhe Leahy, four points separated the sides.

St Colmcilles finished the half stronger, adding 1-03 in the second quarter while O’Mahony’s only managed a single score in this half, through Denise McGrath.

Three minutes into the second half, McDermott kicked a good score to draw the sides back level. The visitors edged ahead again before McGrath clawed it back to a draw, before pushing forward to kick a free and one from play to put O’Mahony’s in the lead.

This wasn’t to last however, with St Colmcilles finding the net on the forty-six minute mark and restoring the advantage in their favour. Chloe Duffy, who played a key role in attack, drew the sides level before McGrath rattled the net. 

O’Mahony’s drove on in the final ten minutes, with McGrath kicking two points and Milly Clarke Carolan adding a score. In defence, O’Mahony’s were well served by Sarah Powderly and Sophia Fitzherbert, who made some impressive runs while Sarah Maguire and Julia Collins made scoring difficult for the visitors.
