Meath 6-22 Laois 0-7
After suffering defeats to Louth and Kildare in their opening two rounds Meath picked up their first win in this year’s Leinster Minor Football Championship after this commanding display against Laois at O’Moore Park.
Early goals from captain Harry McGuirk and Conn Brennan had Trevor Giles’ charges 2-5 to 0-3 by the end of the first quarter. Holding the home side to a point for the remainder of the half Meath hit 2-7 to lead at the break 4-12 to 0-4, Brennan with his second and Cormac Walsh raising the green flags.
There was no let up as the rain came down in the second half. Thomas McKeever and McGuirk were in for early goals and by the 40th minute the lead was out to 6-16 to 0-4. With a place in the preliminary quarter final assured Meath could afford the luxury of introducing their bench. Milo Stafford, McGuirk and Walsh closed out the scoring as the young Royals advanced to the knockout stages with ease.
