HL Div 2: Kildalkey lose out in atrocious conditions

April 13, 2026

Kildalkey's Conor Barnwell

Conditions were atrocious for this Div 2HL Round 2 game between Kildalkey and Dunboyne played in Kildalkey on Saturday evening with gale force winds and bitterly cold temperatures it wasn’t for the faint hearted players or supporters.

It was always going to be a game of 2 halves with whoever scored the most with the wind were probably going to win the game.

The hosts played with it in the first period and led 1-6 to 1-1 at the break with the goal coming from Conor Barnwell and points from Mattie Cully with 3 Jamie Kavanagh, Ben Rickard and Arron Potterton .

The visitors made a quick start in the second half and got early points to close the gap as Kildalkey like Dunboyne in the first half found scores against the wind hard to come by and eventually Dunboyne drew level then went ahead  but Kildalkey kept in touch thanks to 3 frees from Cully and never gave up the fight and had a few goal chances near the end but ultimately Dunboyne won by 3 at the end 1-12 to 1-9 to gain the 2 points on offer
