Slane 1-19 Syddan 2-11
Storm Dave caused the cancelation of this final on Saturday evening at Slane so both teams made their way to Ludlow Park on Sunday for the Tailteann Cup final.
Holders Syddan made a great start. Eoghan Dillon got the scoreboard working before Mark Fedigan raised the games first green flag. Daire Rowe got his first of the game and the home side were 1-2 to 0-0 up inside the opening ten minutes.
Senan Duffy brought Slane back into the game with a well worked goal. Evan Murray, Peter Martyn and Matthew Tully followed with points to put Martin Barrett’s charges in front. The team in Blue held a 1-7 to 1-6 lead but just before Adrian Corcoran’s short whistle Syddan were in for goal number 2 courtesy of Rowe and took a one point lead to the dressing room.
Rowe extended that advantage with the first score of the second half. The visitors wrestled back control with 2 pointers from Alan Harding and Matthew Kealy. Rowe added a brace to tie up proceedings before Slane began to take control. The introduction of Conor Forde began to pay dividends. The number 17 kicked 3 points including a brilliant two pointer and along with white flags from Jim Marry, Tully and Francis Marry the winners five up with eight minutes remaining.
Rowe and Oisin Mooney traded points and Syddan’s search for goals in the the remaining minutes was dealt with by resolut defence to ensure that the early silverware for Junior clubs was heading back to Slane.
After the game County Board Chairman Jason Plunkett presented the Tailteann Cup to Matthew Tully and Tadgh Martyn.
