Navan O’Mahony’s 4-07
Simonstown Gaels 4-13
The lead exchanged hands several times in Paddy O’Brien Park on Easter Sunday morning, with Simonstown coming out on top in the end in the third round of the Div 5 FL played in beautiful sunshine.
Thomas Cully was quick off the mark, giving O’Mahony’s the lead with a goal within a minute. Both sides added a point before the visitors drew level with a thirteenth minute goal. A dominant seven minute period saw Simonstown burst ahead to take a ten-point lead.
O’Mahony’s finished the second half strong, however with points from Clayton O’Sullivan and Cillian Roe. Tiarnán Black and Tommy Carroll found the net to leave the minimum between the sides at half time.
Cully started the second half just as he had done the first, finding the net and putting O’Mahony’s in the lead. A two-pointer from Eoin Joyce left four in it before Simonstown kicked three on the trot to reduce the gap again. O’Sullivan stretched the lead but a goal from the visitors left them in the driving seat again. Simonstown finished stronger, kicking the last points while both sides were denied goals in the dying minutes, with Ben Hoey saving a penalty and Simonstown hitting the post.
