Luke Harte celebrates his goal for Ballinlough during the Division 4 FL clash against Bective

Ballinlough 1-01-04 (9) Bective 3-02-08 (21)

Ballinlough and Bective met in a blustery Ballinlough for Round 3 of the Division 4 League, and it was the visitors, playing with a significant breeze who opened proceedings with three points without reply in the opening ten minutes.

Ballinlough who had to be patient with possession, finally got off the mark in the 15th minute when Kit Óg Lynch pointed a free before good work from Shane Lynch set Kit Óg up for his second point and first from play a moment later.

Bective began to make use of the wind as they pushed on with a two pointer in the 18th minute before adding a pointed free in the 22nd minute, and a second two pointer from play on the 26-minute marker.

If that was as bad as things got for Ballinlough they would have taken a six point deficit heading into the break knowing they would have the breeze, but unfortunately things got a whole lot worse as the visitors added two goals to their tally late in the half to extend their lead to twelve points.

So, when Referee Kieran Olwell blew the half time whistle Ballinlough trailed on a scoreline of 0-02 to Bective’s 2-08.

Ballinlough opened the second half perfectly when Kit Óg Lynch and Eoin Briody combined well and with Referee Kieran Olwell playing an advantage the ball was worked to Luke Harte, and Ballinlough's standout performer this morning finished to the net with aplomb.

That score should have kick-started a revival for Ballinlough but it had the opposite effect as Bective added a point from play before raising their third green flag when abit of fluke luck saw a long ball squirm past Senan McDermott in the Ballinlough net in the 35th minute.

Points were traded as Bective pointed from play before Kit Óg Lynch added a free for Ballinlough.

Bective added another point from play but in truth they could have been further ahead only for some excellent defensive work from Senan McDermott who pulled off a trio of saves to deny any further goal scoring.

A red card for Bectives wing back on a second yellow allowed Luke Harte to add a pointed free to the home sides tally in the 50th minute, before Sean Tunney added a lovely two pointer from play in the 53rd minute.

But the morning belonged to Bective, and they added another point from play before full time to run out convincing winners on a scoreline of 3-12 to Ballinloughs 1-06.

Not the result we wanted and a tough week for some of our lads who togged out three times in the last seven days but plenty to build on too and the lads will look forward to a bit of downtime now and enjoying the rest of the Easter Bank Holiday!
