St Ultans 4-09 Bective 1-13

St Ultans emerged victorious in this entertaining League Div 8 clash and as the old adage goes “Goals win games”.

Bective open the scoring but Tommy Buchanan after a fine run and Adam Rogers from just inside the two point arc gave Ultans an early lead. The sides exchanged scores with a Rogers free and a Charlie O’Brien point for the visitors. The Bective keeper had made a number of impressive saves but Aaron Smyth was quickest to react to hit the net after a Charlie O’Brien shot was saved. Bective responded with a point to leave a goal between the sides. Tom Brennan netted with a fine finish and less than a minute later he cut inside the defence and finished emphatically to the net again. A Bective free closed the gap but Ultans got the last score of the half thanks to Charlie O’Brien.

Tom Brennan pointed and an Adam Rogers free left Ultans in a great position but Bective were awarded a penalty. Jack Fitzgerald got down low to save a well struck penalty and cleared the ball to safety. Bective rallied and scored a goal, swiftly followed by another point. Tom Brennan pointed from a free but Bective had gained some momentum  and two quick points made it a two score game. Tommy Buchanan won possession out beyond the forty five and ran direct for goals, he played in Oisin Durcan who unselfishly played the play back to Buchanan to fist to the net. Tom Brennan pointed from play to leave ten between the sides but a late black card for Ultans handed Bective numerical advantage and they capitalised scoring the last five points of the game. The damage could have been far worse had Fitzgerald not pulled off another fantastic save.  On the night Evan Moyles made his first appearance in adult football with some very positive contributions in the game.
