The visitors raced to 1-6 to 0-2 lead before Tones tightened up at the back and roared back into contention with 2 points from Rian Fox and a goal from Patrick Colwell. Colwell pounced on the rebound from a Rian Feeney goal effort after brilliant combined attack featuring Feeney and Fox. Just 3 behind at half time Tones struggled to create enough scoring opportunities in the second half but thanks to good defending were right in contention to the end. Shepard and O Fionnagáin fired over from close range but the goal they needed didn't come.
