FL Div 1: Gaeils bounce back

Gaeil Colmcille 2-16 Donaghmore Ashbourne 0-14

Gaeil Colmcille picked up their first win of the Husqvarna Centre - PR Coyne Division 1 with an eight point win over Donaghmore/Ashbourne in Grangegodden. Kells all but won the game in the first half, taking a ten point lead into half time after a goal from Evan Sheridan.

Adam Donnelly opened the scoring in the match in the fourth minute and Sheridan's goal soon followed to give Kells the perfect start. Brian Hanlon hit four points in a couple of minutes from play with two single points and a two pointer to see The Gaeils lead by 1-05 to no score. Donaghmore/Ashbourne got their opening score in the 10th minute but Oisin Reilly cancelled that out soon after.

The sides traded points with Ajay Tormey pointing for Kells and when Fionn Smith grabbed a point from corner back after a well worked move, Kells led by 8 points. Donaghmore/Ashbourne got their fourth score of the match but points from Liam Barry and Liam Devine kept the momentum with the Kells side. Just before half-time, Aaron Browne broke up a Donaghmore/Ashbourne attack and the ball fell to Tormey who ran the ball in from midfield to point for the last score of the half with Kells ahead 1-11 to 0-04.

Gaeil Colmcille got the opening two scores of the second half with half time substitute Ryan Farnham pointing and Ajay Tormey pointing iver a free kick, Credit to The Moores the dusted themselves off and really took the game to Kells and hit the next 8 points in a row which included two two-pointers to leave just four between the sides. Donaghmore/Ashbourne thought the had closed the gap further when the ball ended up in the back of the net only for Referee Kieran Olwell to disallow for a square ball.

Kells we're under the cosh and had Barry Farrelly to thank who produced three fantastic saves throughout the match to keep our the Donaghmore/Ashbourne attack. Tormey steadied the ship for Kells in the 48th minute with a free and that was followed by a point from Liam Barry. The gap was back to five when the the visitors scored but the contest was put to bed when substitute Conor Óg Ferguson leaped highest to fist to the back of the net. Two further points was shared with Tormey getting his fifth and Kells holding on for the win.
