It was a low-scoring encounter in Dunshaughlin in the second round of the Div 5 FL, with an early start to facilitate anyone wishing to travel to Tullamore to support the Royals.
Dunshaughlin had much of the possession for ths opening five minutes, with O’Mahony’s struggling to make much of an impact in this time. The hosts got their first score in the eighth minute and had pushed on to a 0-03 to no score lead after twenty minutes.
O’Mahony’s finished the half well. Points from Tiarnán Black, Sean Smyth and Clayton O'Sullivan meant O’Mahony’s went in with a narrow 0-04 to 0-03 lead at the break.
A two-pointer from Eoin Joyce after the resumption stretched O’Mahony’s lead but they then struggled to add to this. Dunshaughlin kicked the next three scores to draw level midway through the half. Two points in as many minutes put them ahead again.
Late points from O'Sullivan and Max Farrelly weren't enough for O’Mahony’s and Dunshaughlin ran out as 0-10 to 0-08 winners. Niall Devlin and Diarmuid O Bric were impressive in defence for O’Mahony’s, as were James O'Reilly, Brian Hughes Magennis and Adam Fagan. Andy Leech, Jamie O’Reilly, Tom Cully, Ciaran Vaughan and Jack Bellamy covered plenty of ground and had a lot of possession.
