FL Div 5: Solid start for the 'Wood'

March 16, 2026

Kilmainhamwood's Ciaran Doyle

Kilmainhamwood 2-14 Moylagh 0-9

Kilmainhamwood made the trip to Moylagh to open the 2026 Division 5 campaign.

There was a cautious start to the game from both side with it taking 10 minutes to open the scoring courtesy of a Shane Townley point to get proceedings underway. Kilmainhamwood having a strong wind in the first half were looking to capitalise on scoring opportunities, it took a while to get the scoreboard ticking over in meaningful fashion. Rian Stafford tagged on another point, shortly after this the Wood kicked into life with a goal from Shane Townley to put 5 between the sides. The Wood started to push on with further points from new recruit to the club Dylan Ogle with a well taken point of the right foot. Another point from Rian Stafford,  and a big 2 pointer from Ciaran Doyle. Kilmainhamwoods purple patch continued right up to half time with a point and another 2 pointer from Rian Stafford.

Half time: Kilmainhamwood 1-10 Moylagh 0-0

At the start of the second half on paper the game looked over, and result settled but with 2 pointers there to be scored games are never settled at half time. A deluge of raining started to pour over the Moylagh pitch and coupled with a strong wind Sean Reilly wasted no time in converting 2 2 pointers and a further 2 more scores to put 6 points on the board for Moylagh. Moylagh  got a penalty which was well saved by Kilmaninhamwood net minder Josh Clarke. Kilmainhamwood scored a point via Shane Townley against the run of play to stop Moylaghs dominant period. Darragh Smith seen a black card and spent 10 minutes on the sideline. Moylagh registered 3 more points to finish out their scoring tally. Kilmainhamwood on the other hand kept turning the screw and got scores from a Stafford free. Substitute Eoin Rooney added a point and minor player playing up Aaron O Donnell added a very late goal on his league debut for the mens team.
