Meath 2-12 Derry 1-11
Meath camogie secured an impressive victory over Derry in today’s National League clash.
Despite contending with a strong wind in the opening half, Meath managed to edge ahead at the break, taking a slender one-point lead. Roisin Heaney set the tone with an early point from a placed ball, and while she, Emma Regan, and Aoibhin Lally added further scores, Meath still found themselves trailing for much of the half. Relief came late in the first half when Ciara Foley found the back of the net, providing a crucial boost to a hardworking Meath side battling both the elements and a determined Derry outfit.
As in previous outings, Meath emerged from the interval with renewed energy. The wind eased, and so did the nerves, allowing Meath to show greater composure through impressive spells of passing and structure. Róisin Heaney continued to make her mark, converting frees and adding points from play, including the first Meath score of the second half.
The introduction of subs, including Aoife Carey in the second half injected fresh momentum, and when she quickly linked up with Emma Regan, though Emma looked set for goal, the Derry defence forced a smart switch, and she delivered a pinpoint pass to Isabel O’Connor, who coolly lobbed the goalkeeper to raise the green flag once more for the Royals. With momentum firmly on their side, Meath never looked back. Emma Regan slotted another free, and Abbye Donnelly rounded off the scoring to seal a memorable win.
