Moynalty 7-12 St Ultan’s 1-08
A youthful Moynalty side continued their impressive run of form on Monday evening with a commanding victory over St Ultan’s in the Reserve Football Cup - Division 4 - Round 3.
Moynalty settled quickly, opening their account through points from Sean McMahon and James Lynch. Eanna Bennett, fast becoming a real goal threat at adult level, struck for the first of his two well-taken goals following a slick team move. Cormac Kearney added another point before Bennett grabbed his second shortly after.
Kian Lynch, looking sharp after an injury-ravaged campaign last year, then got in on the act with a superb goal, and suddenly Moynalty were firmly in control.
To their credit, St Ultan’s responded with three unanswered points to stem the tide. However, new addition Seanie Curran showed all his experience to finish off a flowing move for Moynalty’s fourth goal. James Lynch added a late point to leave the interval score:
Half-Time: Moynalty 4-04 St Ultan’s 1-03
Joe McMahon opened the second half in spectacular fashion, landing a monster two-pointer from distance. Moynalty continued to showcase their youthful depth, with Jude Gilsenan and Eanna Bennett tagging on further points.
St Ultan’s again rallied with two unanswered points, but Seanie Curran was increasingly influential, pulling the strings in attack and creating numerous chances. He capped his performance with his second goal ten minutes into the half.
Although Ollie Sheridan was shown a black card for a foul on a St Ultan’s attacker breaking through on goal, Moynalty’s momentum never faltered. Conor O’Reilly added another goal, while Kearney, Bennett and Gilsenan kept the scoreboard ticking over with points.
Jake Smyth rounded off a dominant display with Moynalty’s seventh goal. St Ultan’s added three late points, but it proved mere consolation as the hosts ran out emphatic winners.
