Meath's Aoife Carey with Clodagh Tynan Laois during the National Camogie League Division 2 game at Ashbourne

Meath 2-16 Laois 1-8

Meath bounced back from last Saturday’s defeat to Kerry with this very impressive display against a previously unbeaten Laois in round 3 of the National Camogie League Division 2 at Ashbourne.

From the first whistle the home side dominated. Emma Regan put Meath on the scoreboard first but by the end of the first quarter the visitors led 1-2 to 0-5 thanks to a Kirsten Keenan goal. Ciara Foley levelled matters before Emma Regan put Stephen Shiels charges in front with a well worked goal. Roisin Heaney, Foley and Aoife Carey added points and Meath, playing with the breeze, went to the dressing room 1-8 to 1-4 in front.

Aimee Collier narrowed the lead with the opening score of the second half. Leah Devine replied for Meath and by the 45th minute the Royals were in control with a point from Olivia O’Halloran and 1-1 courtesy of corner forward Ella O’Brien. Scores from Eimear Hasset and Aoife Finlay kept Laois in the game but Meath finished in style. Substitutes Grace Connolly (2) and Grace Coleman along with O’Brien and the impressive Devine raised white flags before the final whistle.

Meath scorers: Ella O’Brien 1-2, Emma Regan 1-1, Grace Connolly 0-3, Leah Devine, Aoife Carey, Roisin Heaney and Ciara Foley 0-2 each, Grace Coleman and Olivia O’Halloran 0-1 each
