Aoife Carey strikes for Meath as Kerry's Niamh Leen closes in during the National Camogie League Division 2 clash at Dunganny

Meath 1-11 Kerry 2-10

Kerry made the long journey back to the Kingdom with both points after this win over Meath in round 2 of the National Camogie League Division 2 on the astro pitch at a very wet and windy Dunganny.

The home side playing against the elements dominated the opening 15 minutes. Abbye Donnelly opened Meath’s account and soon after full forward Ciara Foley was on hand to finish an Aoife Carey high ball to the net. Carey and Emma Regan added points and the Royals were 1-3 to 0-0 in front.

The visitors were right back in the game with a Kate Lynch goal. Stephen Shiels side responded with a brace from Foley and Isabel O’Connor and Meath led 1-5 to 1-0.

Kerry took control of the last ten minutes. Amy Sullivan was in for goal number two with a clever lob and three points from impressive midfielder Patrice Diggin had the Kingdom ladies in front. Roisin Heaney sent Meath in at the break on level terms 1-6 to 2-3 with the last score of the half.

Diggin had the visitors in the lead from a free in the opening minutes of the second half. Fine efforts from Regan and Rachel O’Neill had the game all square again after 40 minutes. Kerry began to dominate the breaking ball and a brace from Ellen O’Donoghue and Diggan had them in front by the end of the third quarter.

Meath refused surrender. Heaney (free) and Carey had the sides level once more going into the home straight. Diggin, with her 7th point and Sullivan raised white flags to put Kerry two up. Heaney landed her 3rd point from a free to leave the minimum in it but despite having a fair share of possession Meath could not find the equaliser and just before the full time white Kerry full forward Jackie Horgan landed the insurance point.

Up next for Meath is a home fixture against unbeaten Laois, Kerry have home advantage against Carlow.
