Feis Cup: Seneschalstown lose out in Fr. Tully Park

February 11, 2026

Seneschalstown's Eamon Finnegan

Seneschalstown 1-12 Simonstown Gaels 2-18

Seneschalstown began 2026 with defeat to Simonstown Gaels played in Fr. Tully Park on Monday night. Despite the heavy weekend rain, the pitch was in a playable condition and both sides served up an entertaining game for those in attendance.

Seneschalstown started slowly as the Navan side kicked seven of the first eight scores in the opening ten minutes, with the visitors keeper catching the eye for his long range free taking off the deck in the soft underfoot conditions. Cian Hosie was Seneschalstown’s first player to score for the hosts when he pointed on the turn in the 4th minute.

Seneschalstown began to grow into the contest as the half went on and Alan Mulvany kicked a free in the 13th minute. From the resultant short kick-out good pressure from the forwards earned a turnover and Seneschalstown worked the overlap well with the ball making its way to an unmarked Eoin Finnegan. Despite the attention of the onrushing goalkeeper, Finnegan turned onto his right foot and despite being with his back to goal he lobbed the ball into an unguarded net to give his side a boost.

After 20 minutes, a good move involving Darren O’Brien and Alan Mulvany gave Cian Hosie the opportunity to add his second point which he duly did before the sides swapped points by the 24th minute with Eoin Finnegan kicking Seneschalstown’s score from a close range free. A minute later some quick thinking with a free on the edge of the two point arc found Ronan Conneely in acres of space on his own some 25 metres goal and the wing back popped over the levelling score.

However, Simonstown finished the half strongly with a pair of two pointers and a white flag effort to go into the break 0-13 to 1-05 ahead.

The visitors increased their lead to six points after the resumption before Eoin Finnegan kicked Seneschalstown’s first of the second period, this time from play.

Simonstown though were slick in their movement up front and capitalised on a mistake at the back from Seneschalstown to raise their first green flag of the game in the 35th minute. Seneschalstown to their credit did wipe the goal out in a four minute spell thanks to a two point free from Alan Mulvany and a tidy effort from Robbie Finnegan.

After an almost ten minute scoreless spell for both teams, Simonstown made sure of victory as the last ten minutes approached, hitting Seneschalstown’s for 1-04 in a five minute spell to ultimately confirm victory before Seneschalstown added three late scores from Robbie Finnegan and Eoin Finnegan from play either side of an Alan Mulvany free.

Seneschalstown return to action on February 21st at home to Wolfe Tones.
