Trim 3-8 Kilmessan 0-16

Underdogs Trim denied Kilmessan a third Meath Under 21 Hurling Championship title in a row with this one point victory at a cold but dry Pairc Tailteann. A five star display from corner forward Daniel Murray proved crucial as the Town side claimed their first title since 2022.

Kilmessan controlled the opening twenty minutes and were 0-8 to 0-3 in front with points from Adam O’Neill, Lorcan Byrne, Stephen Cahill, Conor Horan (3) and Lorcan O’Connor (2). Trim were back in the game on the 23rd minute when Daniel Murray pounced on a shot from Josh Ayton and finish to the Kilmessan net. The holders responded with a brace from Conor Horan. Trim finished the half with points from Darragh Heffernan and George Douglas to go in at the break 0-10 to 1-5 in arrears.

Trim were in front by the second minute of the second half with goal number two from Murray after a Douglas free dropped short. The sides were level with ten minutes remaining 0-13 to 2-7. Substitute Robbie Johnson and Lorcan Byrne pushed the holders two in front and they looked set to push on for victory. Trim and Murray had other ideas and he was on hand once again to force a long ball over the Kilmessan goal line for green flag number 3. Tadhg Foley and Mark Horan exchanged points as the game entered two minutes of injury time. Horan had a chance to send the game to extra time from a free with the last play of the game but his effort went wide and Trim were crowned champions.

After the game County Board Secretary Ciaran Flynn presented the U21 HC cup to George Douglas.
