St. Colmcilles created history in the second game of the day by claiming their first ever Cumann na mBunscol Girls Division 1 football title after a very exciting final at Trim.

Kells got a great start when Maggie Grimes finished to the net after a goalmouth scramble. St. Colmcilles, playing with the wind, missed plenty of scoring opportunities. Méabh Arkins and Caitlin Gavin added points before the break and they took a 1-2 to 0-2 lead to the half time huddle. 

Now with the elements at their back Gaelscoil Thulach na nÓg began to eat into that lead. Ailaidh Ní Eidhin (2) and Caragh Ní Riain levelled matters before the impressive Ní Eidhin gave the Dunboyne school the lead for the first time. Back came St. Colmcilles. Kate Timmons levelled matters again before full forward Arkins raised her team’s second green flag with ten minutes remaining. Gaelscoil Thulach na nÓg were not done and they hit back with a Chloe Ní Bhrádaigh point and a Ní Eidhin goal to edge two points in front with injury time looming. Could the Kells girls respond? Yes they could and just before the full time whistle half forward Gavin scored a fantastic goal just before the full time whistle and claim a first ever title for St. Colmcilles.

After the game Niamh De Brún presented the Division 1 Cup to St. Colmcilles captain Sadie Harte.
