Dunboyne 4-11 Simonstown 1-14
Dunboyne were crowned Meath Under 15 Division 1 Cup winners after this six point victory over Simonstown at Paddy O’Brien Park. The Navan side entered the game as favourites having already claimed the Tournament and League titles earlier in the year.
The winners were 0-3 to 0-2 up before the games opening goal arrived, Ruairi McDermott finding the back of the Dunboyne net to put his team in front. St. Peters replied with a goal almost immediately from Eoin Hawkins. Points from Darragh Harkin and Cathal Egan put the boys in Black and Amber three up. The remainder of the half was dominated by the impressive Joe Kearney who kicked six points, including two two-pointer frees, and Simonstown went to the dressing room 1-9 to 1-6 in front at the break.
Dunboyne were on level terms in the opening minutes of the second half. Full forward Sam Eglington, who caused mayhem in the Simonstown defence throughout, powered through to raise his team's second green flag. Egan, Harkin and Mathew Hyland followed up with points to put Dunboyne in control. Simonstown kept battling and were rewarded with scores from Kearney (2) and Eanna Kenny to lead 1-13 to 2-9 with ten minutes remaining. But from there on Dunboyne dominated. The outstanding Eglington got in for his second goal, Egan kicked another point before substitute Sean Dowd put the icing on the cake with a fourth major after being set up by Eglington.
After the game Mary and Colin O’Brien along with Fintan Porter (County Board) presented the Paddy O’Brien Cup to Dunboyne captain Darragh Harkin.
