Leinster Club IFC: Superior Sallins sink Kilbride

Sallins 3-18 Kilbride 0-6

Sallins eased into the Leinster Club Intermediate Football Championship semi final after this emphatic win over Meath champions Kilbride at at wet and windy Pairc Tailteann.

The visitors controlled matters from the throw in and playing with the wind were 0-9 to 0-0 up after 16 minutes. Kildare senior Colm Dalton kicked a brace before Cian Grimes landed a two pointer. Dalton landed his teams second two pointer and along with white flags from Grimes, Stephen Kelly and Luke Killian the Kildare champions were in cruise control at the end of the first quarter. 

After a period of no scores the home side finally got off the mark through Josh Harford. Full forward Emmet Ralph and Kelly again replied for Sallins and they went in at the break 0-11 to 0-1 in front.

David O’Leary sent over a free in the second minute after the restart but any hopes of that score igniting the Kilbride challenge were piut to bed in by the end of the third quarter. With Daragh Mangan controlling midfield Sallins again dominated and points from Killian, James Dalton, substitute Alan Marshall (2) and Kelly opened up a 14 point lead before Jonathan Daniels men were in for their first goal courtesy of county man Dalton. Half back Luke Kelly raised their second green flag five minutes later and before the full time whistle Cian Grimes completed a Sallins scoring with goal number three. 

The winners play Offaly champions Clara in the semi final.
