IHC B final: Defeat but plenty of promise for Tones

October 20, 2025

Sean McKeown gains possession for Wolfe Tones during the IHC B final against Kildalkey at Pairc Tailteann

Bhulf Ton 1-11 Kildalkey 2-14 in Pairc Tailteann

Bhí an chéad leath an iomaíoch. Scóráladh trí chúl, dhá cheann ag na buaiteoirí agus rinne Joe Smith, cúlbaire Bhulf Tón, sábháil bhreá sna noméidí tosaigh. Bhi seans ar chúl ag Joey Curtis ag an taobh eile. Níor chabhraigh ceithre iarrachtaí ar faraoil le cúis Tones sa chéad ceathrú. Bhí Cill Dhealga chun tosaigh le 2-9 go 1-5 ag leath am. Tháinig cúl Tones ón ionadaí Thomas o Connor.

Bhuail Bhulf Tón paiste corcra sa tríú ráithe ag coinneáil Kildalkey gan scór agus cúig phointe á fhail acu a d’fhág an scór 1-10 go 2-9. Arís, bheadh díoma orthu ceithre ar faraoil acu sa tréimhse seo agus sábháladh puc éirice ó Éanna Harrington. Chuaigh Kildalkey ar aghaidh arís agus fuair siad ceithre chuilíni gan freagra. Thrádáil na foirne cúilíní ag an deireadh. Chríochnaigh Éanna Harrington le 0-10.

The first half was very well contested with end-to-end action. Three goals were scored, two by the victors while Joe Smith the Tones keeper pulled off a fine save in the opening minutes with Joey Curtis denied at the far end. Tones’ cause was not helped by four wides in the opening exchanges and with nine overall. Kildalkey led by 2-9 to 1-5 at half time. Tones’ goal came from substitute Thomas O Connor who had replaced the injured Jenkinson. He finished a cross from close range following a Joey Curtis run.

Bhulf Tón hit a purple patch in the third quarter holding Kildalkey scoreless while adding five points to leave the score 1-10 to 2-9. Again, they would rue four wides in this period while Éanna Harrington’s penalty effort was saved. Kildalkey got going again and hit four points without reply to ease themselves into a winning position. The sides traded points at the end, Tones scorer being Eanna Harrington who finished with 0-10, all from placed balls.

This rounded off the Tones season and sees a young team gaining experience who play with lots of spirit and showing promise for the future. Míle buíochais to bainisteoir Mark Lynch and selectors, Ray Dorran, Philip O Brien and Robert O Kelly Lynch.
