Ratoath 1-14 Dunderry 1-6
The lads made the trip up to Ratoath and started best with Bob converting a free. The next move involved nice team work from defence out. William Treacy carried well down the middle and off loaded to the speedy Kyran Woods who kept the momentum going. Jack Darcy showed well, gathered and just like the Bomber Liston years ago, had it back in Woods chest and he burried it low under the goalkeeper. Ratoath responded with a point from play. Rian Fay sent in an inch perfect ball which Clarke collected but he was stopped in his tracks. Up steps Bob and converts a superb two pointer free and Dunderry were well in the ascendancy 1-3 to a point.
Ratoath found their groove however and hit us with 1 - 3 without reply and went to the interval a point the better.
The second half started the same way as Ratoath really turned the screw. A two pointer free and four from play had them in the driving seat. Connelly tapped over sweetly on the run followed by a Ben Clarke free from the right corner. The home team score on the break however to leave six between the sides. Tadhg Dowd tried to find a way through but he too was pulled down and Bob dually converted the free. That's all she wrote however for this year as Rathoath went on to convert three more frees to leave eight between the teams at the final whistle 1-14 to 1-6
As ever, the Dunderry lads couldn't be faulted for effort but luck wasn't on our side this evening. The panel had a nice mix of youth and experience again this year and chalked up some great wins in league and championship. The lads were a pleasure to manage for Alan Waters, Kenny Fay & Mickey Casey and they can hold their heads high and be proud of their performances. There are plenty of reasons to be positive for next year and beyond.
