St Brigids 2-11 Carnaross 1-09
Round three of the Junior Championship saw us head to Grangegodden to take on Carnaross where we needed a victory by two points or more along with a Clann na nGael victory over Moylagh to see us through to a quarter final.
We had the advantage of a strong wind in the first half and we knew we needed to take our scoring chances and try and build a cushion for the second period. Rory Collins got us of the mark with a point in the first minute and it was followed by a two pointer from Cormac Browne before Carnaross opened their account in the fifth minute. By the twentyfifth minute we held a slim lead at six points to four when David Gibney stepped up and smashed a brilliant goal past the Carnaross netminder. The last play of the half finished in another major as Cian Blake found the net to give us an eight point advantage at the break 2-06 to 0-04.
Carnaross notched the first three points of the second period before Cormac Browne put over a twopoint free to settle the nerves only for Carnaross go and convert a penalty to leave three points between us and a nervy few minutes followed but we knuckled down and through robust defending and cleverly holding possession around the middle of the field we managed to notch another two points to grab the win by five. As the Cian Na Gael/Moylagh match ended in a draw this ended our interest in this years Championship.
