Navan O’Mahony’s 2-06
Royal Gaels 2-10
Navan O’Mahony’s suffered a four point loss to Royal Gaels in the second round of the SFC in Dunshaughlin on a damp Thursday evening. Three points in injury time from Royal Gaels were enough for them to secure victory.
The hosts had raised a white flag within sixty seconds of throw in while it took O’Mahony’s a few minutes to get going. Robyn Murray produced an impressive save early on before Denise McGrath finished off a good run, kicking a fine score. Within a minute of this, Charlie Murray found Megan Collins with a pass before the latter sent it to the net.
Three minutes later, Royal Gaels had a goal disallowed for overcarrying, but two minutes after this, successfully found the net. In the twelfth minute, Collins directed a ball to the net after a free dropped short, but this too was disallowed for a square ball.
A few minutes later, Orlaith Mallon set up Collins for her second goal and from the resulting kickout, McGrath won possession and scored to give O’Mahony’s a four-point lead. Within a minute of this, Royal Gaels narrowed the gap to the bare minimum with a goal before equalising in the sixteenth minute with a fisted point.
Royal Gaels took the lead shortly afterwards, which they held for eight minutes until Lauren Woods split the posts to leave the sides level after a good pass from Collins. The sides exchanged points for the remainder of the half, with Collins (after an impressive play from Sarah Powderly) and Muireann Nelson scoring for O’Mahony’s to send them in with a slim lead.
