Drumree's David Reilly

Drumree 2-16  Boardsmill 0-10

Drumree got their Championship campaign off to a flying start with a commanding victory over Boardsmill on Friday evening in Kiltale. On what was an extremely hot day, both sides had to contend with soaring temperatures, but it was Drumree who kept their cool and powered through the heat to produce a dominant second-half display.

The sides traded scores throughout the first half, with Drumree just shading it thanks to sharp shooting from Evan Curley and reliable placed balls from Sean Doyle. In defence, Gavin Byrne and Odhran O’Riordan stood strong to keep Boardsmill’s attacking threat limited, allowing the men in Red and White to take a 0-7 to 0-5 lead into the break.

After the restart, Drumree shifted gears. Midfielder David Reilly took control of the middle of the field, covering huge ground and setting the tempo for what would be a relentless 30 minutes. Josh Wall dominated in the forward line, striking for two excellent goals and finishing with 2-2 from play in a standout performance.

Sean Doyle remained composed in the heat, converting four well-taken frees in the second half, while further scores came from Evan Curley the McCormack brothers—Cathal and Lennon—who chipped in with two points apiece from play, and defender Gareth Rooney, who got forward to land a fine score.

Drumree’s intensity only grew as the game wore on, with substitute Sean Kennedy adding fresh energy after coming on in the 36th minute. The team closed out the m atch in style, outscoring Boardsmill 2-9 to 0-5 in the second half and sending a clear message in the opening round of the Championship.

The evening was made even more memorable by Championship debuts for Evan Curley, AJ Collins, Lennon McCormack, and Sean Kennedy—each of whom made valuable contributions in what was an impressive start to Drumree’s 2025 campaign.
