Boardsmill travelled to Rathkenny and came away with both points in this RBK Construction and Roofing Ltd, Football League Division 7, Round 8 game.
Rathkenny 1-10 Boardsmill 3-17
Referee Seamus O’Connor threw up the ball with the hosts playing towards the clubhouse goals. The visitors opened the scoring with a second minute point from play before the hosts levelled through Derick Smith and followed this up with a two-pointer free from keeper Finn Moore on five minutes. The visitors took over the scoring reeling off a goal and eight points over the subsequent fifteen minutes to lead by nine. Patrick Knowles popped over a free on 24 minutes before the visitors sent over two more points to lead at the break 1-11 to 0-4.
Things got better for the visitors when they added a further goal and two points in the opening five minutes of the second half. The gap was now out to fifteen points. Rathkenny managed to keep the visitors scoreless for the next thirteen minutes. Daniel Gavagan added a two-pointer for the hosts on thirty-seven minutes, followed a minute later by a point from Luke Kealy. However, a spell of seven wides or short attempts left a comeback very difficult. Luke Kealy eventually added to Rathkennys account when sending over on forty-six minutes. Boardsmill found their range once more to add two more points to the account as we approached forty-nine minutes. Daniel Gavagan added his third point of the evening with eight minutes remaining. Back came the visitors again adding two further points the second from a 45 after good work from Rathkenny custodian Finn Moore to keep out a goal attempt. The hosts managed to find the back of the net when an attempted score fell short, but T J Bellew was quickest to react and palmed the ball to the net. Ross Gore then added the hosts final point of the evening before Boardsmill sent to the net with the clock entering the sixty-first minute.
