Moynalvey 2-19 Moynalvey 2-11
Moynalvey moved top of the J.M Food Services Div. 2 league as a result of this round 10 win over Oldcastle and coupled with Rathkenny’s defeat of Trim.
The game’s opening score came after ninety seconds when Moynalvey centre forward Mark O’Sullivan split the uprights. The visitors opened their account forty seconds later through Louis Colleran to draw the sides level for the only time in the game, 0-1 each.
Moynalvey took the lead which they weren’t to relinquish in the fifth minute when a Cillian O’Sullivan point attempt under pressure fortuitously fell to the hands of Vinny Walsh who buried low across goal to the far corner of the net past Oldcastle goalkeeper Conor McHugh.
David McLoughlin sent over the first of his nine points, before a second Moynalvey goal this time blasted to the Oldcastle net by Craig Gilsenan after a move that started with a Darragh Branigan turnover in defence to see the home side with an enviable lead of 2-2 to 0-1 after twelve minutes.
Opposition wing backs for both sides accounted for the next two scores, firstly Oldcastle’s Lee Healy with Moynalvey’s Conor Shirren replying, before Oldcastle scored a goal of their own following a handling error by Moynalvey ‘keeper Conor Egan allowing Oldcastle in for a green flag of their own, 2-3 to 1-2 with seventeen minutes gone.
A Cillian O’Sullivan point made it double scores 2-4 to 1-2 before a pair of Oldcastle points from Garrett O’Reilly and Pat Cawley left a goal between the sides 2-4 to 1-4 with twenty two minutes gone.
David McLoughlin pointed with Oldcastle responding through Tom Lynch, before an Adam Murphy free and the first two pointer of the game coming from David McLoughlin just before referee Owen Ganley blew for half time, meaning the score board read 2-8 to 1-5 at the break.
Oldcastle got the best possible start to the second half when a high ball in from the right was fisted home to the Moynalvey net thirty seconds after the restart, leaving three points between thew sides once again, 2-8 to 2-5.
However, Moynalvey responded to this early second half setback with four points without reply, three placed balls from top scorer McLoughlin including a ’45 and a pair of close range frees after the ball had been brought forward for Oldcastle indiscipline and a point for corner back Darragh Branigan to give them a seven point lead, 2-12 to 2-5, ten minutes into the second half.
Garrett O’Reilly and Cillian O’Sullivan traded points before Oldcastle narrowed the deficit to five with a brace of points from Jason Scully and Pearse Sheridan, 2-13 to 2-8, midway through the second half.
An Adam Murphy free, followed by a second ’45 from David McLoughlin and a sweetly struck two pointer off the outside of the boot from Craig Gilsenan meant Moynalvey held a commanding nine point lead, 2-17 to 2-8 with seven minutes remaining.
A pair of Oldcastle points were countered by a third free of the evening from Adam Murphy, with a Pearse Sheridan free and David McLoughlin point rounding off the scoring to leave the full time score board read 2-19 to 2-11 in favour of the men in maroon.
