FL Div 2: Trim's unbeaten run continues

Trim's James Murray

Trim 3-17 Curraha 0-12

Trim continued their unbeaten run in Division 2 of the league with another convincing win against a poor Curraha side in sunny Trim on Thursday (19th June).

Almost from the throw in it was clear that these were two mismatched teams. Trim was well organised, working to a plan and in control from the start whereas Curraha seemed to be ill-prepared and lacking any kind of coherent strategy.

It took Curraha fifteen minutes to register their first score, a point from a free while Trim registered three points in this period. The Trim total could have been much higher but for some wayward shooting (6 wides) and some poor decision making. Conor Quigley was the first to register a point in the fourth minute, Sean Foley quickly followed. Trim dominated and man of the match Kyle Ennis hammered home a great goal in the 13thafter a great assist by Foley.

Padraig Walsh set up Tom Carmody for a 17th minute point with a fine effort from distance to negate a similar effort from their opponents. Curraha added a two pointer but David Lernihan extended the Trim lead with a converted “45” a few minutes later and Daire Lynch further extended it shortly after.

The second Trim goal came in the 23rd minute and was a fitting end to a great move which saw the ball moved from the Trim half back line through centre field and into the full forward line where Sean Foley seemed to be boxed in by two Curraha defenders but popped a beautiful pass over their heads into the path of David Lernihan who made no mistake with a low shot to the net. Curraha responded with a magnificent two pointer against the run of play. Sean Foley added a further point before the half time whistle.

Three further points from Trim left them with a 2-8 to 0-7 lead.

The second half followed the same pattern as the opening thirty minutes with Trim scoring three points in the opening six minutes without reply from Curraha. They reduced the deficit with a point in the 7th minute and a two pointer three minutes later. Trim continued to dominate the remainder of the match scoring 1-6 to 0-5 for Curraha to leave the final score Trim 3-17 Curraha 0-12.

This was another very good display by Trim. They dominated in every area of the field and played very controlled football. James Murray, Conor Quigley and Daire Lynch made a formidable triangle which dominated the middle of the park. The backs and goalie Eoin O’Reilly (another clean sheet) were always in command and Declan Dowling in particular caught the eye.

Tom Carmody covered lots of ground and apart from his scoring contributed significantly to this victory. Kyle Ennis showed the brilliance we know he is capable of and was an easy choice for “Man of the Match award although Sean Foley and James Murray ran him close.

Even the substitutes introduced by Trim made their mark Davy Murtagh, Harry Purcell and Eoghan Ryan impressing.

Next up is Rathkenny in Trim on 28th.

Trim team: E O’Reilly, D Dowling, P Walsh, J McGowan, Cathal O’Reilly, C Quigley, E Sweeney, I Birmingham, J Murray, P Quigley, D Lynch, T Carmody, S Foley, K Ennis, D Lernihan.
