Meath's Benny Murray

On this date, May 28th 2000, 25 years ago. Meath defeated Carlow 5-14 to 2-10 in the National Hurling League Division 2 final.

That game was remarkable for the fact that Benny Murray scored five goals and a point. Even more remarkable was the fact that he was not in the panel for the first eight rounds of the competition. And staying with the remarkable, Benny came on in the round 9 win over Kildare and scored 2-3. 7-4 in a game and a bit is not bad going any day of the week.

The 2000 campaign marked the return John Davis as coach. Meath’s only defeat during the campaign was to their final day opponents.
