Nobber 2-09 Moynalty 0-15
For the second game in a row Moynalty were forced to share the points, this time with neighbour’s Nobber in tough conditions on Sunday morning.
Nobber opened the scoring in the first minute with a questionable goal after a mistake from the ever reliable Joe Gilsenan, the Moynalty player appeared to be fouled in the small square before the Nobber player finished the ball to the Moynalty net. Moynalty responded with points from Ollie Sheridan and another from Pauric O Connor, but Nobber responded quickly with a fine point from long range, both teams exchange wide’s until Paul Lynch popped over his first of the day, but then the game swung in Nobber’s favour, aided by a very strong wind, they began to win a lot of ball in midfield as they pushed up on Johnny Lynch’s kick outs, this pressure resulted in 3 unanswered points for the Nobber men and the better football was been played by the men in black and gold. In the 25th minute things got worse for Moynalty when Nobber found the net for the second time, by this time it was all one way traffic and Nobber’s greater game management was yielding results, Johnny Lynch stepped up to kick one of his four 2 pointers of the afternoon to ease the pressure but Nobber responded with 2 quick points from the left to leave the half-time score,
Nobber 2-08 Moynalty 0-05
Moynalty made changes at half-time, bringing on John Brogan for Cathal Donohue and Paddy Byrne for Jake Smyth and immediately Paddy marked his return to the team by scoring a 2 pointer after a fine team move from the back. Moynalty now playing with a breeze in their back looked energized and determined to close the gap, they were defending better, showing more aggression in the tackle and moving the ball better. But their shot selection let them down at times and this gave Nobber hope. As conditions worsened and the heavy rain started, ball handling became more difficult and the game entered a stalemate with both teams making poor mistakes, but Pauric O Connor won the ball on the right side and rounded 4 men before been fouled 13 meters from goal, Ollie Sheridan kicked over the free and Moynalty continued to apply pressure, a great ball played in by Paddy Byrne found Pauric O Connor once again, this time Podge kicked it over to narrow the gap further. Johnny Lynch then added another fantastic 2 pointer from distance and Moynalty were now breathing down the necks of their opponents. James Lynch replaced Pauric O Connor who must have been feeling the effects of a recurring injury as he was now a constant threat. With10 mins left on the clock Nobber scored their only point of the second half, but Moynalty continued to win the 50:50 balls and Niall O Connor, Paddy Byrne & Adam Reilly were now on top in Midfield, Ronan Lynch was now also in the game and he calmly played a great ball to Bryan McCormack who was fouled outside the arc for Johnny Lynch to step forward and score his third 2 pointer of the game, as we entered injury time and Moynalty 2 point behind Johnny Lynch calmly kicked Moynalty level. Opportunities to score the winner were in short supply as both teams defended well in the closing stages, referee Paddy Clarke blew for fulltime and the teams finished level.
