Nobber 1-10 Blackhall Gaels 0-13
Nobber made the long trip across the county to Kilcloon to face Blackall Gaels on Tuesday evening last in their Round 7 fixture of their A League Division 3 campaign. The black and ambers who were in search of picking up their first points of this year’s campaign managed to come away with a draw, however, it could have been more.
The North Meath men played the first half with the aid of a huge wind, with Niall Farrell getting the first two points from play. Midfielder Dean Halpin impressed with kicking another score for Martin Morgan’s charges then ran some distance and slotted the ball low and hard to the back of the net registering a green flag for Nobber. Further scores from full forward Conor Owens (1) and corner forward Dale Larkin (2) left the black and ambers going into the half-time interval with a healthy lead. Blackhall Gaels' corner forward caused some havoc in the Nobber defence and registered four scores to keep them within touching distance. Nobber netminder Dary Hutchinson made an important save in the first half to help keep his clean sheet intact.
Half-time score – Nobber 1 – 6 (9) Blackhall Gaels 0 – 4 (4)
As the second half commenced, the Deesider’s were against the wind. Halpin notched over another score, followed by a Larkin free and another point from play from the lively Larkin. The versatile Niall Farrell scored the final point for the black and ambers. Going into the final stages Nobber looked like they were going to hold on for their first win, however Blackall Gaels levelled proceedings towards the end with a huge free from the right-hand side of the field. Barry Bradley made an important save in the second half to prevent a goal and ensure the Nobber men did not go home defeated. Martin Morgan and his management team can take some positives from his teams' performance over the 60+ minutes. Both sides will meet again later in the year in their championship campaigns.
