Carnaross 1-09 St Brigid’s 2-09
Carnaross travelled to Ballinacree on Sunday morning for this Division 4 encounter. The home side led for the majority of the contest but the result was always in doubt.
Charlie Murphy registered the first score of the game. Both defences reigned supreme as neither team added any further scores for 15 minutes. Eventually Brigid’s broke the stalemate when a mishit shot was finished to the net by Michael Flood. The Junior B champions of 2022 added another free soon after before Paddy McDermott opened his account. The score of the half was when Charlie Murphy won a kickout laying it off to an onrushing Oisín Yore who marauded up the field to finish expertly. The final two points of the half were shared with Paddy Mac doubling his tally. At half time, the Ballinacree men led by the minimum (1-02 to 0-4).
The half time interval seemed to spur the home side on as they registered the next 3 scores in a barren period for Carnaross. The chances were being created but the crossbar was hit 4 times and numerous efforts ended up in the keeper’s waiting arms. Brigid’s took full advantage of Carnaross’ wastefulness adding 1-1 of their own, stretching the lead to 8. However, Brigid’s were temporarily reduced to 14 men following a black card infringement. The Ross took advantage and added 3 scores on the bounce. Paddy McDermott rocketed a goal which ignited the game as a whole. Dillon Fox added a point off the bench followed by Shane Yore’s fine effort to reduce the gap. Paddy McDermott then traded frees with his counterpart in blue as the game entered the melting pot. A serious looking injury to a Brigid’s player resulted in a substantial break in play. Brigid’s responded best to this delay with 2 unanswered points with Conor Kenny doing well on both occasions to deny goals. Darragh O’Reilly and Fox replied with 2 scores but the equalizing goal never came despite numerous attempts.
It was a disappointing result but encouraging performance for Carnaross, whose accuracy over the 60 minutes let them down. They now face Longwood away on Tuesday June 4th, in their next league encounter.
