Kilmessan 1-13 Kildalkey 1-7
Kildalkey Under 21's bowed out of the championship race at home on Sunday after a 6 point defeat to a strong Kilmessan outfit.
With soft underfoot conditions both teams tried their best to adapt and play with some sort of fluidity in a well contested game but Kilmessan seemed to find their scores more easily.
Kilmessan started with intent and hit the front from the start with a pointed free from the impressive Mark Horan who followed up with a goal after rounding his man to put his team in the driving seat .
Full forward Brian O Halloran got kildalkey off the mark with a good point from play and Mattie Cully pointed a free.
Cully hit the remaining 3 Kildalkey points a free a 65 and a point from play but the Kildalkey forward line were getting hard to get going and it was Kilmessan who led at halftime 1-7 to 0-5.
Scores were hard to come by in the third quarter as the ball went up and down the field. Again Kilmessan scored first and pushed their lead out further.
With his team needing a goal Mattie Cully lobbed in a free into the goalmouth and o Halloran got a pull and the ball landed in the net to give his team some hope but kilmessan responded and hit the next couple of points to stay in front.
Evan Geoeghan and Ryan Byas got in for 2 late points to bring their tally to 1-7 but kilmessan finished strong and got the last 2 points and progressed to the final on a score line of Kilmessan 1-13 Kildalkey 1-7 and now play Trim in the final while Kildalkey bow out.
Kildalkey had good displays from Arron Traynor Cian Colhoun Ryan Byas Alex Rickard and O Halloran while this year’s minors Conor McNally Cameron Smith Shay Diggins and Jamie Kavanagh all played well with 4 more years of u21 still left to play which bodes well for the future.
