Ballinlough and St. Colmcilles became the first winners of Meath Under 19 Football Championship titles last night at Dunganny.
In the U19 FC final Evan Breen got St. Colmcilles on the scoreboard first but they were rocked a minute later with a superb Donaghmore Ashbourne goal. By the midway mark the Cilles were 1-2 to 0-4 in arrears before another lapse in defence let the Moors in for their second goal. Donaghmore Ashbourne dominated the next ten minutes and were 2-5 to 0-4 in front until Conor Murphy brought St. Colmcilles back into it with a goal. Half time Donaghmore Ashbourne 2-5 St. Colmcilles 1-5.
Conor Murphy put his side ahead with another goal midway through the second half and minutes later Oisin O Murchú raised their third green flag to extend the lead to five. Points from Christian Finlay, O’Murchú and Murphy sealed the win on a 3-11 to 2-8 scoreline.
The 7.30 throw in on pitch 1 was a game of two halves to decide the destination of the U19 B FC title. In a low scoring opening twenty minutes Ballinlough and St. Marys were tied on 0-2 each. St. Marys totally dominated the remainder of the half and stunned the Lough with 2-2 to go in at the break with an eight point lead.
With 40 minutes gone they were in from 2-5 to 0-4 but the eventual winners never panicked. Kit Og Lynch put them back in the game with a goal before Darren O’Higgins turned the game on its head with a two goals. Now in control Ballinlough added points from Daire Shine and Shane Lynch to seal a 3-9 to 2-7 win and cap a fine year for the North Meath outfit who have also won U15 and U17 championship titles.
