Bhulf Tón 2-3 Bective/ Dunsany 2-11
In ainneoin an scór deireanach, bhi an cluiche seo an chomórtasach go dti an cheathrú deireanach. Le cabhair dha chúil ó Ben Reilly, bhí Bhulf Ton chun tosaigh go dtí gur lig siad cúl isteach i lár an dara leath. Gortaíodh an culbaire Daniel mc Hugh roimh leath am, rud a d’athraigh treo an chluiche go dtí sin.
Tones led by 2 01 to 0 01 when a stoppage due an injury to keeper Daniel Mc Hugh, who had to leave the field of play, seemed to upset the visitors’ rhythm and they would concede 3 points in as many minutes before the interval. Up to that point the Tones defence had been rock solid and had frustrated Bective/ Dunsany, restricting them to one point for more than twenty minutes. Tones’ Blake Mc Garry had opened the scoring with a fine point from play before Ben Reilly netted, his shot slipping fortuitously through the keeper’s fingers. Daniel mc Hugh came to the Tones’ rescue shortly afterwards with a fine save from close range. Tones enjoyed plenty of possession at this stage but were caught in possession on several occasions in greasy conditions. Tones created two unconverted goal chances before Ben Reilly added his second. Calum Browne and Rian O Fiannaidhe had combined to create a half chance but were crowded out while Ben Reilly and Evan Curley combined to set Alex Mc Keever up with a pass across the square. Eventually Tones did find the net after some neat interplay involving Alex Mc Keever and Rian O Fiannaidhe setting up Ben Reilly who finished neatly over the keeper’s head from an acute angle. Rian O Fiannaidhe added a fisted point before the injury to Daniel Mc Hugh which seemed to change the momentum of this game. As the game resumed Tones gave the ball away in attack, Bective scored a point on the break and would win the next two kickouts yielding a three point total before half time. Half time score 2-1 to 0-4
Bective/ Dunsany added a point immediately on the restart. Tones replied with a free from Alex Mc Keever which was to be Tones’ last score of the game. The host’s tails were up now and they added three points before the decisive goal which gave them the lead for the first time. Tones were holding a 2 03 to 0 08 lead and were still very much in with a chance before an attempted pass from a sideline in their own defence was intercepted leading to a goal. Tones were now chasing the game and although they created a couple of scoring opportunities and had a goal effort saved, they couldn’t add to their tally. A goal conceded at the end in a similar manner to the first goal put a gloss on the scoreline which didn’t reflect the competitive nature of the game up to latter stages.
Despite this loss Tones had a good campaign in this competition and the players responded well in training to the urgings of their management team Patrick Caffrey, Derek mc Keever, Ciaran O Gallchóir, Declan County, Stephen Sheppard & Eamonn Hubble. We look forward to seeing a number of these players getting involved with out adult teams in the year ahead. Maith sibh go leir.
