Playing against the wind Tones dominated much of the opening half and weren’t flattered by a 0 04 to 0 02 lead as half time approached. Ominously they had dropped a number of scoring chances short playing into a stiff breeze and so often happens this profligacy hurt as they conceded 2 01 just before half time to trail by five points. Although a body blow the fact that Tones would have wind assistance in the second half meant it was all to play for in the second half.
Ben Reilly kick-started the Tones second half with a brilliantly taken goal after being fed by Kyle Moran who had collected Harringtons angled pass. This was in fact a six point turnaround as O Mahoneys had just hit the post at the far end as they looked certain to goal. Kyle Moran added a Tones point before Tones conceded an unlucky third goal as a point effort came back off the post and was finished to the net. O Mahoneys 3 03 Tones 1 04. This was as good as it got for the visitors as they would manage only two more points while the home side would hit 1 09. The next score was a fortuitous Tones goal. Joe Smith took a free in the direction of full forward Kyle Moran. The pass eluded Moran but his effort to make contact with the ball distracted the O Mahoneys keeper and the ball went all the way to the net. Ben Reilly followed up with a brilliant individual point and just a point now separated the teams. Joe Smith (2) and Sean Murray (a fisted effort) added points before Tones survived a scare at the far end when O Mahoneys hit the side netting. Moran, Penny, O Beaglaioch and Smith added points to ensure a home victory and a place against Summerhill in the final.
