Drumbaragh 0-10 Longwood 1-6
Drumbaragh held on to retain their Intermediate Football Championship status after this very entertaining relegation quarter final at Carnaross.
Longwood got a dream start and inside seven minutes opened up a 1-2 to 0-0 lead. Ryan Moore got the scoreboard working and soon after the same player was in for the games only goal. Thomas Coloe added another point and a one sided affair seemed on the cards.
Slowly Drumbaragh worked themselves back into the game with All Ireland minor medal winner Hughie Corcoran to go to man in the forward line. In the remaining twenty minutes Longwood failed to score while the Emmets tagged on seven points. Corcoran accounted for four of them, impressive centre back Joe Carry two and half back Paddy Murray with a fine effort as Davy Cahill’s men went to the break 0-7 to 1-2 in front.
Corcoran continued his fine form with the first two points of the second half. Ciaran Sheridan got Longwood’s first point in over thirty minutes to give them some hope but that was cancelled out by a Harry O’Higgins score as the game entered the last ten minutes. From there on Longwood controlled matters. Points from Mickey Burke (2) and Moore narrowed the lead to one. Noel Kerrigan’s men had a few chances to find the equaliser but that never arrived and Drumbaragh held on to secure the Intermediate championship status for 2024.
Longwood turn their attention to a relegation semi final against the losers of Bective and Oldcastle.
