Cormac Browne St. Brigids

St Brigid's 3-07 Kilmainham 0-05

Round three of St Brigid's championship campaign saw us travel to an immaculate Moynalty grounds to take on Kilmainham on Friday evening.

In a very tentative first half, Kilmainham registered the first two points in the seventh and eighth minutes from while it took us fifteen minutes to get off the mark through a Cormac Brown point from play. Fergal Ingram received a red card at this stage but the defence worked extremely hard to close down any Kilmainham attack. So much so that when Cormac scored his second point from a free in the twenty-eighth minute it was to level the match at two points each and that was how the scoreboard read at the break.

St Brigid's regrouped and the halftime pep talk worked wonders as within minutes we hit a point followed by a Joseph Blake goal. Dylan Briody worked hard to put the Kilmainham keeper under pressure on his kickout as he tried to play the ball short to the extra man who was promptly robbed by Dylan and laid the ball off to Joe for a tap in. Kilmainham responded with a point to leave a goal between the sides again. The St Brigid'sen pushed on and piled on the pressure on Kilmainham as we knocked over the next three points to lead by six by the 46th minute. In the next minute, the numerical advantage finished for Kilmainham as they were reduced to fourteen and at this stage. The Brigid's were on a roll and Dylan notched two goals for himself following two layoffs from Joesph who repaid the earlier favour. With the game over as a contest at this stage Kilmainham knocked over two points to finish their scoring. While the recently returned from Australia Ryan Tighe finished St Brigid's scoring with a point. A good shift put in by all our lads sees us qualify for the knockout stages while we still have the last group game in two weeks versus Ballinlough.
