Dylan Briody St. Brigids

St Brigid's GFC 2-13 Moylagh 1-09

After a bye week for St Brigid's in round 2, round 3 of the Junior Championship saw the Ballinacree men face Moylagh in Millbrook for a much anticipated clash which drew a large amount of interest which was reflected in the size of the crowd that turned up to watch a local derby that certainly didn't disappoint on the entertainment front.

Moylagh won the toss and elected to play with the advantage of the strong breeze in the first period but it was St Brigid's who landed the first score of the match, a goal for Kevin Gilsenan following a point attempt from Dylan Briody which dropped short and Kevin was on hand to flick it to the back of the Moylagh net.

Moylagh's response though was a goal of their own as they worked the ball the length of the field and snuck in to level it up to leave it a goal apiece after six minutes played.

The points ebbed and flowed and by the 26th minute the teams were level at a goal and four points apiece but with the last kick of the half Moylagh knocked one over to head in for the break leading by the minimum margin.

The second half started at a fast pace and with credit to both teams by the fifth minute of the half Brigids had three points added to their total while Moylagh had two to leave it level again at 1-07 apiece. The next score was vital in the Brigid's challenge as Dylan Briody stepped up and crashed the ball to the Moylagh net to start to put a bit of daylight between the sides. Amazingly though between this score which was in the sixth minute of the half and the thirtieth minute the teams only managed two further points each which left it an edgy spell for the leaders as the game entered injury time.

Finally though, St Brigid's found the bit of extra space with the numerical advantage following a Moylagh red card half way through the second half and Dylan Briody fired over two points in quick succession to ease the tension while Cormac Brown and Jack Blake finished off the scoring leaving it reading 2-13 to 1-09 on the final whistle.

Kilmainham are the Brigid's next opponents in the group stages on Friday 25th in Moynalty.
