Ben Tansey Memorial Golf

Over 70 golfer took part raising €2,200 for the charity.

Friends, former colleagues and members O’Mahonys GAA gathered at Knightsbrook Golf Club, Trim to play in a golf outing in memory of Ben Tansey and to raise funds for the Irish Heart and Stroke Foundation.

The event was organised by Michael Flynn and Tom Staunton and over 70 golfer took part raising €2,200 for the charity.

At the social gathering and presentation afterwards,sponsored by Adrian O Halloran, (Marcies),Tom Staunton thanked all the participants and sponsors for donating and sourcing prizes for the fundraiser. In particular he thanked Peter Igoe and all at Knightsbrook for their welcome, the wonderful facilities and the generous sponsorship of prizes. He also thanked Marcies and its staff for the provision of food.  

Tom recalled many memories of the sporting talents of Ben Tansey and the strength and fortitude he displayed during his illness following a stroke. He paid tribute to his family, particularly his widow, Kitty, who was present for the presentation. He spoke of how proud Ben would be of the 2023 gathering  which was the first since 2019 just before the Covid 19 Pandemic. “ He would have enjoyed its marvellous success, the beautiful golf course , meeting the participants and the sense of fun and comradeship throughout the day. Ben would have been so proud”. Tom entertained the crowd with a moving  tribute to Ben and a recitation on the game of golf
