Kerry 1-03 Meath 3-25
The Meath U16 Hurlers made the trip to Portlaoise to face Kerry. Conditions were perfect for hurling.
Meath got of the mark with a goal from Oisin Cashman in the opening minute. Mark Leavy followed up with a free soon after. Adam O'Neil, Finn Conroy and Malachy Fisher joined the early scoring spree, leaving Meath 1-04 to no score from Kerry. Scores from Conroy, Pat Jordan and Dylan Duignan kept the scoreboard ticking over, before Kerry put a score over the bar in the 17th minute. Kerry had a goal scoring chance, but a great save from Darren OHiggins denied the Kingdom. Kerry did put in a goal in the 20th minute. Ben McGovern and Feargal Flynn joined the Meath scorers before half time, giving the Royals a 13 point lead at the interval.
Meath emptied the bench and made 10 changes at half time. Dylan Duignan and Daniel Murray got two quick points in the 2nd half, before Oisin Cashman raised the green flag for a 2nd time. Meath used their puck out strategy with great effect, especially down the right side where Jamie Kavanagh fed a lot of ball to the forwards. Meath played systematically, playing the ball patiently, until scores were available.
Mark Leavey had great success down the middle, playing off the shoulder. Caemerhon Smyth pulled off a point blank save to deny the Kerry men a 2nd goal. Jamie Kavanagh and Rian Fay popped scores over the bar, before Adam O'Neil found the back of the net for Meaths 3rd goal. It was a great panel performance, where all players contributed to a fantastic win and 14 got on the score sheet. Meath have now beaten Laois, Westmeath and Kerry and top the group.
