Dunboyne pay tribute to the late Michael 'Sport' Kelly

The late Michael Kelly

Dunboyne GAA took to social media to pay tribute to former player Michael Kelly.

St. Peter’s GAA Club is deeply saddened by the passing of Michael ‘Sport’ Kelly. His easy-going nature and keen sense of humour will be sadly missed by everybody who was fortunate enough to know him.

In his younger days Michael was a highly rated player with the club. He played at right half forward on the successful Feis Cup winning team in 1958. He won a Junior County Championship medal in 1962 when Dunboyne beat Donore in the final in Trim. He was also a noted 7-a-side player where his speed and quick brain helped the club to many tournament successes.

When he retired from playing Michael quickly established a reputation as a skilled masseur and he was a key member of the backroom team which steered the club to their first Meath Senior Championship title in 1998. He was also masseur to the Meath Under 21 team which was beaten in the All-Ireland final by Derry in 1997.

Apart from his involvement in GAA, Mick was also a keen athlete, being a member of Clonee AC and Dunboyne AC. He completed 13 Dublin City Marathons.

St. Peter’s wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to the Kelly family and the wider family circle.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
