Awards: Senior Club Footballer of the Year

December 22, 2021

Wolfe Tones Sáran Ó Fionnagáin

After a wait of 15 years Wolfe Tones claimed their second Keegan Cup title with a deserved win over Dunboyne at Pairc Tailteann.

Despite defeat in two Feis Cup finals, Michael McDermott's men had a great championship coupled with some outstanding individual displays during that unbeaten campaign.

The O’Neill, Sheppard and O’Reilly brothers were exceptional, joint captain Shane Glynn led by example and was voted Man of the Match in the county final while veteran Cian Ward was one of the best forwards in the senior grade during 2021.

Cian Flynn, Jordan McLoughlin, Ronan Jones, Cathal Finn, Cathal Lacey and Donal Lenihan stood out for the beaten finalists.

Andy Colgan, Thomas McGovern, Dylan Brady, Michael Deegan (Donaghmore Ashbourne), Seamus Mattimoe, Paul Tormey and Evan Sheridan (Gaeil Colmcille), Conor McGill, Daithi McGowan and Jack Flynn (Ratoath), Eoghan Frayne and Adam McDonnell (Summerhill), Cillian O’Sullivan (Moynalvey), Shane Walsh (Na Fianna), James Conlon (St. Colmcilles), Brían Conlon and Sean Tobin (Simonstown) were others that caught our eye during the shortened season.

Our Senior Footballer of the Year goes to Sáran Ó Fionnagáin. Time and again the young Tones forward popped up with crucial scores including that vital goal in the early stages of the county final. His ball winning ability all over the field was crucial for Wolfe Tones and it’s only a matter of time before we see the Wolfe Tones star in a county senior jersey.

Well done Sáran.
