The Trim squad

Dunboyne 0-11 Trim 3-13

Trim got there Championship underway with a hard fought but deserved win in Dunboyne on Saturday evening.

Trim started nervously, and it was the home side who were quickest out of the blocks, and they quickly went into a 3 point lead. Trim produced some good football, but their final pass let them down on several occasions.Trim did eventually find the range when Niamh Mahon slotted over to get the away side on the board. This seemed to settle Trim and they added another  point through Katie Newman, before Dunboyne added a point to lead 0-04 to 0-02 at the first half Water break. Hannifan in the Trim goal brought of some fine saves on the restart. As the second quarter began, Trim were forced into a change when Dennis had to leave the field with an injury. Dennis was replaced by Shortt who worked tirelessly.

Trim really raised their game. Moyles and Mc Donnell started to control midfield. At the back, Ciara Ni Scolai,  Adelle Carolan Flynn and Sophie Purcell tightened up and confined the home side to shots from distance. The passing became much crisper and they started to run at the Dunboyne defence. They were quickly rewarded for their good start ,when Meg Ni Scolai raised 2 green flags in the space of 5 minutes. Newman and Ni Scolai then added two more points to put some space between the two teams. The other forwards of Mc Dermott, White and Downes worked hard, winning and retaining posession. Again Hannifan in goal produced some excellent goalkeeping, however the home side replied with two points of their own to leave the half time score of Dunboyne 0-07 Trim 2-05

The home team started the second half well, with the 2 opening scores before Trim were awarded a penalty.  Unfortunately Mahon rattled the cross bar and the ball was cleared. The home side then reduced the deficit to a single point when tapping over a free. Trims defence held firm with Milner and Bolger solid as always.Trim replied with two points through the boot of Newman to lead by 3 at the second half water break. Slattery replaced Mc Dermott at the break and slotted in well at half forward.Trim again upped their game when Ni Scolai added her third goal of the game with an infatic finish after a sweeping move. This goal seemed to deflate the home side as Trim led by 6. Trim were not going to give up such a lead and added points through Newman, Moyles (2) Mahon and Mc Donnell to finish the game as a contest, and run out winners on a scoreline of 3-13 to 0-11.

Trim now play Dee Rangers on Wednesday in a rescheduled game.
