In perfect condition the teams served up an exciting game with the issue in doubt to the closing minutes. Tones looked the stronger outfit for much of the first half and led by 7 points at one stage. This early lead was thanks to a cracking goal from Tom Gavigan who gathered a well-timed pass from Stephen Sheppard to fire to the net while Cian O Neill emulated Cathal Mc Shane’s effort in the All-Ireland final flicking his brother Dan’s high ball to the net. Caolan Ward (3), Cian Ward and Thomas O Reilly added the points along with an Alan Callaghan special off the outside of the boot to put Tones in a commanding position. Moynalvey hit back with 1  01 before half time. Cillian O Sullivan fired home a penalty after having being fouled on one of his trademark surging runs to leave the half time score 2  06 to 1 06.

The significant score of the third quarter was a goal from Moynalvey’s David mc Loughlin which left the minimum between the teams. Matters were level shortly afterwards before a Caolan Ward free nudged Tones in front 2  09 to 2  08 at the waterbreak. Padraic Harnan levelled matters on the resumption. Cian O Neill did fantastically well to claim and convert a mark from Cian Ward’s long ball and nudge Tones ahead. Thomas O Reilly and Saran O Fionnagain added points to make it a three point lead before lively substitute Oisín Martin intercepted a Moynalvey pass and fed Cian O Neill who blasted to the net and ensure a six point lead which was too much for Moynalvey with the limited amount of time remaining.

Tones will face Na Fianna in the quarter final while Moynalvey head into the relegation play offs.
