Na Fianna's Jamie Queeney

Na Fianna; 3-11 Ballinabrackey; 3-11

Na Fianna salvaged a draw with Ballinabrackey in a well presented Clonard  grounds on Sunday.

Na Fianna were coasting in the first half as they tore their opponents defence to shreds with some scintillating attacking football.

Daniel Queeney hit two early points along with one each from Jack McNally and Sean Martin as they went 0-4 ahead before the Bracks’s first point.

Sean Rafferty finished a great run forward by blasting the ball into the net , closely followed by a similar goal by Sean Martin. A Shane Walsh pointed free and an Ethan Devine point saw Na Fianna go in to half time 2-07 to 0-5 ahead.

Early second half points from Jamie Queeney and Shane Walsh seemed like it would seal the win for Na Fianna but two goals from Ballinabrackey rocked Na Fianna. They continued their comeback for the next 15 minutes with only an Oran Smullen point being Na Fianna’s response.

With full time almost up, Ballinabrackey were three points up, but from a John Baldwin pass into the goal area, Jamie Queeney rose highest to fist the ball to the net to put the sides level.

Ballinabrackey went straight down the pitch to point again but when Na Fianna earned a free 45 yards out, Daniel Queeney expertly dispatched it over the bar to earn the draw.

This draw sees Na Fianna progress to a quarter final meeting with Wolfe Tones while Ballinabrackey face into a relegation playoff.
