Both teams had already booked their place in the knockout stages but it was Trim who came out on top of Group B after this IFC round 3 clash at Pairc Tailteann. PHOTOS

Trim got the perfect start when Brian Dowling finished off a good move to the Clann na nGael net. Tomas Doyle replied with a pointed free but Trim were in again for another goal minutes later, this time from Eoin O’Connor.

With ten minutes remaining in the opening half Kevin Reilly’s charges held a 2-6 to 0-5 lead before midfielder Sean Fitzgerald got through for their 3rd goal.

Clann na nGael refused to lie down and finished the half with 1-1, Philip Garry with the goal, as Trim took a 3-5 to 1-6 lead in at the break.

That lead was extended early in the second half with a brace of points from Aaron Lynch and a fine effort from James Toher. At the second water break Trim held a commanding 3-9 to 1-7 lead.

In a low scoring fourth quarter Clann na nGael closed out proceedings with a Eamonn O Donnchadha goal to narrow the gap but it was Trim who went on to record a comfortable win.
