IFC: Martyn inspires as Dunderry qualify for quarter final

Dunderry's Luke Martyn

Dunderry 2-13 Ballinlough 1-11

Dunderry earned a hard fought but deserved five point win over Balinlough in Trim to ensure they progress to the knockout stages of the intermediate football championship.

Kevin Barry's side drew first blood when Luke Martyn tip toed up the endline before scrambling the ball into the net.

However three successive Ballinlough points meant they were soon level.

Further points from Stephen Coogan and Luke Martyn left Dunderry with a two point cushion on 15 minutes but a quickfire point and a converted  penalty from the Lough meant they went into the water break with a 1-4 to 1-2 lead.

Wasteful shooting from Ballinlough after the water break let Dunderry off the hook and when Luke Martyn palmed a pass into the net Dunderry retook the lead, a lead they wouldn't surrender.

Although the sides traded points for the remainder of the half, Dunderry took a three points lead into the break.

Early scores from Jordan Martyn and Conor Farrell saw Dunderry stretch their lead to five.

Ballinlough fought hard to regain a foothold in the game, but resolute defending from Connor Dempsey, Morgan Callaghan and Liam Dempsey meant they were unable to do so.

Further scores from Alan Watters, Coogan and the outstanding Luke Martyn meant Dunderry ran out comfortable winners.
