SFC: 'Moors' undone by holders third quarter scoring spree

Donaghmore Ashbourne 0-14  Ratoath 2-12

Despite a very good first half showing Donaghmore Ashbounre were undone by a third quarter Ratoath scoring spree in this round 2 Meath SFC clash at Pairc Tailteann.

Ratoath opened the scoring with the first point after just 1 minute of play. Donaghmore/Ashbourne leveled with a well taken 45 from goalkeeper Andy Colgan. By the first water break Don/Ash were up by 5 pts to 3pts, the scores coming from Dylan Brady, Michael Deegan, Shaun Byrne and Leo Reilly.

The 'Moors' were playing good kick passing football, tracking back and working extremely hard to stem the threat of goals from a very dangerous Ratoath forward line. Don/Ash continued to dominate and further scores from Bryan Menton, Dylan Brady, Michael Deegan and Andrew Tormey gave them a 0-9 to 0-5 lead at the break.

All the good work was undone in the third quarter as Ratoath upped their game and outscored Mick Deegan's charges 2-5 to 0-1 to leave them with an uphill battle. To their credit Donaghmore Ashboune never gave up but failed to get much needed goals. Bryan Menton, Michael Deegan (2 frees) and Sean Curran concluding the scoring but it was the Keegan Cup holders who went on to record a four point win.
